The great discovery is that the Bible is a message system: it's not simply 66 books penned by 40 authors over thousands of years, the Bible is an integrated whole which bears evidence of supernatural engineering in every detail!
Author: Paul the apostle
Dates:
- I Timothy: A.D. 63-65 from Macedonia
- II Timothy: A.D. 67-68 from prison in Rome shortly before his execution by Nero.
Timothy was a young man from Lystra, the son of a Jewish woman and a Greek father (Acts 16:1). Timothy began to minister with Paul in Macedonia and Achaia and may have accompanied him all the way to Jerusalem. Paul came to love Timothy dearly and considered him a spiritual son. Both of the letters to Timothy are instructions on the pastoral care of the churches. The second letter, however, is written while Paul is in a dungeon about to be executed, and focuses on presevering and remaining faithful in the face of persecution.
